During even numbered years the Educational Foundation presents a seminar for DKG members and guests.
The next Seminar in Purposeful Living will be held in Washington, D.C., the United States capital city.

Purposes of the Seminar in Purposeful Living:

A Capital Experience
July 19-22, 2012

Washington, D.C., the United States capital city, in the middle of July − lovely, informative and historical! Register now! Join other DKG members and guests at the 2012 Seminar in Purposeful Living, July 19-22, for A Capital Experience.

Thursday, July 19: Check in and participate in group singing before dinner. Find out about the exciting places participants will see in the next two days. You will have a chance for an early evening as Friday will be a very busy day!

Friday, July 20: After breakfast, depart on coaches to Arlington National Cemetery to see changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns, graves of the Kennedys and the home of Robert E. Lee. Next stop: the Capitol Building for a tour and lunch on your own. Then, enjoy a guided tour of the National Cathedral, the seventh largest cathedral in the world. After dinner at the hotel, board buses to view major Capital City historical monuments and memorials illuminated at night.

Saturday, July 21: Following a buffet breakfast, Foundation trustees will share information on projects, Cornetet awards and other activities. You may finish your day with one of three
exciting tours:

  1. Mt. Vernon: Visit the home of George Washington, first U.S. president, for a guided tour of the mansion. Walk the grounds overlooking the Potomac River and visit Washington's grave. Lunch is on your own, available at the site. (4 hours)
  2. History on Foot: A two-hour guided tour of the area around Ford's Theater where Abraham Lincoln, the 16th U.S. president, was assassinated. Visit the theater, the museum, and Peterson House across the street. Be transported to the places and events of that day in 1865. Lunch is on your own.
  3. The National Mall: Smithsonian: Visit some of the 14 Smithsonian buildings, including the newest American Indian Museum, National History Museum, National Air and Space Museum, National Portrait Gallery. You might see the largest diamond in the world.
  4. If you are interested in seeing the Holocaust Museum, you will need to check this tour on the registration form.
  5. If you are interested in seeing a larger display of air and space, check the Udvar-Hazy Center near Dulles Airport.

You have the choice of a shuttle bus or an all-day pass on the Metro system. Lunch is on your own.
You will have free time on Saturday evening for dinner and activities of your choice.

Sunday, July 22: Rise and shine for a full breakfast and conclusion of the Seminar. Then travel together to New York City! You'll board buses by 11:00 a.m. and be on your way to the "Big Apple" for the DKG international convention. This will be time for you to relax, visit, snack or take a nap...and be ready for the week ahead! The 4-5 hour trip to New York City will provide a lunch-on-your-own stop along the way. Register now and be sure to attend!

Numbers are limited to 250 participants and based on first-come, first-served registration. Hotel information is sent to participants at the time of registration. Single/double occupancy rooms are $129 before taxes and fees.
